(KRON) -- A man was convicted in San Francisco of committing domestic violence and sexual violence against his former partner who he suspected was "cheating" on him, prosecutors announced Tuesday.

Murad Bahruddin, 36, imprisoned, raped, and assaulted his ex at knifepoint in 2023, the San Francisco District Attorney's Office said. Following a jury trial, Bahruddin was found guilty of sex crimes, domestic violence, and child abuse.

According to prosecutors, on September 18, 2023, Bahruddin went to the victim’s residence to accuse her of cheating on him, and threatened to kill her and her children. Bahruddin then grabbed a kitchen knife and pushed the victim into her bathroom.

"The victim’s son also reported to the police that Mr. Bahruddin had threatened to kill him, and that he heard his mother being sexually assaulted in their bathroom," the DA's office wrote. "The victim’s son told the police that he slept with a meat cleaver under his pillow that night."

The next morning, on September 19, the victim took one of her children to school. When she returned home, Bahruddin pushed the victim into her bedroom at knifepoint and raped her, prosecutors said.

After he left the victim's home, Bahruddin called and emailed the victim more than 300 times, the DA's office said.

"The scars of domestic violence extend far beyond the physical; they leave lasting emotional wounds that can take years to heal," Assistant District Attorney Abigail Adams said. "The survivor and her children endured years of physical and emotional abuse at the hands of Mr. Bahruddin, culminating in the horrific events of September. I am grateful to the jury for carefully considering the evidence and reaching verdicts that hold Mr. Bahruddin accountable so that he can no longer wield power and control over the survivor and her family."

District Attorney Brooke Jenkins said, "The jury’s verdict is a testament to the strength and courage of the survivor in this case as well as her family. "
