While some familiar faces will return to their respective positions, Tuesday’s Election Day in Vermilion Parish ended with a good deal of change.

There will also be a new leader at the Erath Police Department, as Randal Toups ousted longtime Chief Anna LaPointe. Toups took 418 votes to LaPointe’s 370.
John Dayries is set to take over the police department in the town of Maurice. Dayries picked up 553 votes on Tuesday, enough to defeat incumbent Guy Nerren (447 votes).
The Maurice Board of Alderman will return four of the five previous members. Six candidates looked to secure the five spots, with Troy Catalon, Megan Landry-Lalande, Matthew Trahan and Scott Trahan returning. They will be joined by Wayne Theriot, a former mayor. Current Alderman Jonathan Schlicher finished sixth.
Billy Noegel, who has served District A on the Abbeville City Council since his appointment in July, won a special election for the seat on Tuesday. Noegel (465 votes, 65%) defeated Cornelius Darby (252 votes, 35%).
The race for mayor in the town of Gueydan is headed for a runoff. That will feature Jason Suire (133, 36%) and Efrem “Zim” Livingston (121, 33%). Jeffrey Lamson finished with 115 votes. Current Mayor Jude Reese did not seek another term.
The two remaining seats on the Vermilion Parish School Board are now filled. Coeyn Wise defeated incumbent Gregg Meaux in District C, while Roderick Darby claimed a win over Tyrone Alexander in District F.
William Seaux will take the reins of the Kaplan City Marshal’s Office after a win against incumbent Ruby Thibeaux on Tuesday.
