DENVER–Democrats appear poised to comfortably hold every statewide executive office in Colorado, with the party’s candidates leading comfortably in early returns Tuesday night.

The Associated Press called the governor’s race for Democrat Phil Weiser at 7:01 p.m., just one minute after polls closed. Weiser, currently the state’s attorney general, and running mate Lesley Dahlkemper had 61.6% of the vote, or 871,734 votes, compared with 33.2% for Republican Victor Marx, a political newcomer. Unaffiliated candidate Greg Lopez trailed with 2.7%, and four minor-party tickets each drew under 1.5%.

Weiser will succeed Democratic Gov. Jared Polis, who is term-limited after eight years in office.

Down the ballot, Democrats held similar margins. In the secretary of state’s race, Democrat Amanda Gonzalez, the Jefferson County Clerk and recorder who oversees the county’s election operations, led Republican James Wiley 60.4% to 36.9%.

For state treasurer, Democrat Jeff Bridges led Republican Kevin Grantham 59.2% to 38.6%, with Libertarian Jodie Barr at 1.9%.

In the race to replace Weiser as attorney general, Democrat Jena Griswold, the outgoing secretary of state, led Republican Michael J. Allen 59.1% to 40.9%.

the three down ballot Democrat all held a lead of roughly 20 points or more. If the margins hold, it would continue Democrats’ control of all of Colorado’s statewide offices.
